Another set of simple variations on a 4-bar chord progression, this one for string quartet. The melody moves from player to player unchanged (except for the 4th) while the harmonization changes underneath, around, or above it.
From the same college textbook, I took a 4-bar chord progression, with a few rhythm requirements, and wrote a short series of variations, omitting any overt transitions, coda, or introduction.
Using an old college textbook, here are three exercises in simple chorale style. They are meant to keep the composing muscles from going soft. They are also based, more or less, on an opening D-B-C-A sequence.
Also for learning purposes. This one is also in ternary structure, starting in D and modulating to A. The thematic material is from Haydn's E-flat quartet opus 20 #1.
I’ve taken up the violin again, after an abortive attempt last year. A major is reasonably well known to the fingers, now they need to learn D major. This duet is intended to help that learning process. It is in ABA form with a pedagogical twist; the repeat of A is not in the opening A major but in D.
